Services

Servicing the Communities of Greater St. Charles

Length of Care Services

Hourly Care

We have a minimum of hours of service per day and possibly by week (this varies by service area). However, we have assignments that are scheduled for 4 hours once per week all the way to assignments for more than 40 hours per week. About half of our assignments are for 12 hours per week (3 days per week for 4 hours each day). We can design a schedule that meets your needs. If you need less than 4 hours of service, you might consider an Angel Call (See below).

24/7 Multiple Shifts

Some Care Recipients may need constant attention. Often this is for a few days after they come out of the hospital or a rehab facility, then shift to shorter hours or fewer days. We also can provide this service when the adult children need to go on a business trip or on a much needed vacation. We have experience in meeting these needs and can design a schedule with flexibility to ensure that the Care Recipient is getting the attention and help that they require.

Weekends & Holidays

We do not charge more for weekend service. While we do charge extra for holidays (we need to pay our caregivers extra for giving up their holiday time), we are able to supply this need. For holiday service that is not in conjunction with a regularly scheduled weekly service, we ask that you contact us as far in advance as possible.

Angel Call

An Angel Call is a service that is event driven as opposed to a time requirement. Most often, this service is used when a Care recipient needs help getting up in the morning, needs help getting to bed in the evening, or needs help with bathing. The Angel Call should take no more than 1 hour. While this is our most expensive service, we find that some need just this little bit of help. There are some service areas where we cannot offer an Angel Call

Flexibility

Clients are in charge of everything. Their schedule is our schedule. Visiting Angels does not dictate what the client schedule is to be (i.e. what time to wake up, when to bathe, meal schedules etc.). It is our job to adjust to the client’s schedule and to keep the client comfortable in their home.

Types of Services

Activities of Daily Living (ADL)

ADL is usually divided into two types, Basic ADL and Instrumental ADL. Basic ADL is comprised of bathing, dressing & undressing, eating, transferring from bed to chair (and back), using the toilet, and walking. Instrumental ADL is comprised of light housework, meal preparation, taking medications, shopping, using the telephone, and managing money. These activities enable a person to live independently. Visiting Angels provides services that help seniors to perform the Activities of Daily Living so that they can remain in their homes (Custodial Care).

Custodial Care

As noted above, Custodial Care helps seniors to perform the ADL and is non-medical in nature.

Assistance in Hygiene

Some Care Recipients need help with bathing or showering. Some are not able to bath and will need a bed or chair bath. Incontinence may also be an issue. Our caregivers can handle any of these needs.

Assistance in Dressing

Medication Reminders

Being non-medical, our caregiver cannot dispense medications. A family member will need to set up the medication needs (a pill minder box is the easiest) and supply us with a list of medications and times. Our caregiver ca then let the Care Recipient know when they need to take their medications.

Meal Preparation

Our caregivers can prepare a meal for the Care Recipient. However, we are not licensed dietitians or chefs. At your directions, our caregivers will cook meals on site or do whatever preparatory work you feel is necessary in our capacity as a homemaker, companion or helper. It is up to you and the extended family to provide primary instructions concerning this service.

Light Housekeeping

Typical "light" housekeeping tasks to be provided by the caregiver would include: tidying up of rooms in which the care recipient spends his/her time (bedroom, living room, kitchen), washing dishes after meals (wiping spills on sink or floor, "spot cleaning"), sweeping kitchen floor when needed, passing the vacuum in rooms used by care recipient, tidying bathrooms after use by care recipient (rinsing tub or shower after use, wiping spills on sink or floor). No more than 20% of the time the caregiver is in the home should be devoted to housekeeping and/or laundry activities.

Light Laundry

As noted above, heavy laundry or large items should be handled by the family or a cleaning service. However, the caregivers would be happy to help with some light laundry duties and certainly for clothing items that become soiled by the Care Recipients.

Errands and shopping

If needed, the caregiver can run errands or do shopping for the Care Recipient. If the caregiver uses their own vehicle, the standard IRS mileage rates would be charged and the entire amount would be passed on to the caregiver.

Doctors Visits

If a vehicle is provided to the caregiver, or other transportation arrangements are made, the caregiver can go with the Care Recipient for doctor visits. Many families find that having someone along to take notes and ask questions for the family is very helpful.

Joyful Companionship

We hire for “Nice” and we do not hire “lazy” – we want to provide caregivers that the Care Recipients are happy to see and want to be around.

Respite for Family Caregivers

Family members can become stressed out with the dual job of their career and caring for their loved ones. They need help. We believe that we are not only caring for the elder Care Recipient, but we are caring for the family as well.

Our Caregivers

Experienced Caregivers

Clients deserve to have a caregiver who is experienced in providing the services that are needed in your home. We don’t believe in “on the job training!” We recruit only experienced caregivers in caring for seniors and have references from reliable sources.
